The only way to configure/compile Sophie on Sarge with the
latest sweep :

Product version           : 4.00.0
Engine version            : 2.32.5
Virus data version        : 4.00
User interface version    : 2.07.119
Platform                  : Linux/Intel
Released                  : 05 December 2005
Total viruses (with IDEs) : 114679

was to use the libc6 (glibc2.2)-labeled version of sophos
antivirus.

the libc6-labeled version leads to the following
errors on configure/compile:

/usr/local/lib/libsavi.so: undefined reference to `__ctype_b'
/usr/local/lib/libsavi.so: undefined reference to `__ctype_tolower'

It seems to be a known problem of some static binaries with
glibc2.3 :
