I have not tried this for Windows, but bootable flashdrives have 
worked well for us for Linux. Get one that has a read-only/read-write 
switch on it. It might be possible to use a regular flash drive just 
to hold the pattern files and modify the CD configuration slightly. 
Then use the read-only CD with a ro/rw flash drive holding just the 
signature files. Just food for thought.
