Problem in VPN setup

Hi all,

 I'm trying to setup VPN in our lab for demo purpose.
 I've configured two machines as gateways which are connected by a
router and two clients using cross cables.
 I'm running SSH express ipsec toolkit 5.0 on gws( on Linux kernel
version 2.2.16-22).I could ping one client from other in tunnel mode
but unable to do the same in transport mode.
 Kindly tell me the configuration steps as well as any changes I have
to make in .spd file.
