For the benefit of the archive, I've just revisited this one more time
after a long period, and got the solution to this.
If you're on XP and are hitting the "XP terminal services client refuses
to connect to localhost" problem, the answer is (and thanks to all the
people whose work pointed me in the right direction):
Copy the files "mstsc.exe" and "mstscax.dll" from a Windows 2000 Server
(WINNT\system32) to your XP box in a temp folder
Set the compatibility mode for "mstsc.exe" (Properties | Compatibility)
to either Windows 95 or Windows 98/ME (NT4 or 2000 does not work)
Start Zebedee listening locally on some port other than 3389
zebedee 10000:remotehost:3389
From the command line and the folder into which you've copied mstsc from
your 2000 box
mstsc /v:127.0.0.1:10000
And so long as you've got Zebedee running on the remote host and
configured to allow 3389/tcp, you should get a remote login screen.
Hope this helps, and thanks again to all those who advised and Neil for
some great s/w :-)
