I guess it depends on what you mean by dead. You could just look on it as
having reached near terminal stability.

If there's things in the manual that are wrong then it would be interesting

Yes. But as you've all seen, just not very active on Zebedee.

I do owe it to you all to turn Zebedee 2.5.2 into a final release 2.6. I've
had a volunteer (thanks Michael!) to help with the documentation -- which is
one of the main things that needs finishing. I've also got a couple of
contributed patches to add in (64-bit platform support, HTTP proxy
authentication and maybe per-target identity checking).

I'm going to give this a shot next week. There, a public deadline!

If anyone wants to take over Zebedee, let me know. That's fine by me.

As well as the other solutions that have been mentioned, like stunnel, you
might want to look at OpenVPN.
