That's really odd, as this is faily common usage. I don't have Mandrake 9.1
but GCC 3.3.1 (Cygwin) and GCC 3.2 (RedHat 8.0) both are quite happy with
this. Perhaps it waa broken in 3.2.2 but later fixed or maybe Mandrake broke
it.
