Summary: dashes in title causes XHTML error
Initial Comment:
I am running serendipity-1.0-beta2 (upgraded from
0.8-beta4 where I noticed the bug), and found the
following: if I put dashes in a title (e.g.
"Title--more details") it causes the page to not
validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
In particular, the following comments appear in the HTML:
<!--
<rdf:RDF
xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"
xmlns:trackback="http://madskills.com/public/xml/rss/module/trackback/"
xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
<rdf:Description
rdf:about="http://mysite.com/blog/index.php?/feeds/ei_148.rdf"
trackback:ping="http://mysite.com/blog/comment.php?type=trackback&entry_id=148"
dc:title="Title--more details"
dc:identifier="http://mysite.com/blog/index.php?/archives/148-Title-more-details.html"
/>
</rdf:RDF>
-->
and, in particular, the appearance of "--" in
'dc:title="Title--more details"' seems to cause a
validation error.
This results, for example, in Firefox 1.5.0.2
displaying --> after the entry.

Sadly this is a strange display issue of Firefox. There's no
reason it turns those "--" into invalid characters. I also
cannot find any RFC that says "--" are forbidden in XHTML
(metadata). So honestly I think this is a thing that needs
fixing in Firefox. It does not show in RSS readers or other
browser AFAIK.
