in version 1.0.1 experimental support for 'SET NAMES' in databases from 1.0-beta2 is still not working.

when the database-connection is made, config on language and charset have not yet been fetched from the database, therefore SQL_CHARSET from the languagefiles never gets defined. this seems to be somewhat of an chicken-egg-problem. i suggest having $serendipity['dbNames'] change from boolean to string and let the user hardselect his charset when giving database-login-setting in serendipity_config_local.php

i have manually fixed this issue on one of my client's installation of s9y, but would hate to do it again once he updates :)

Thanks for reporting! Indeed this did not work as planned before, but has
been changed in the 1.1 tree for some while, and should be working there.

We would appreciate if you can testdrive the 1.1 snapshot.
