Initial Comment:
Some people commented my blog only with a smiley, that's why I noticed that, when a smiley is directly at the beginning of an entry, it is not replaced by an image. I solved this by replacing

preg_replace("/([\t\s\.\!>]+)" . $key
with
preg_replace("/([\t\s\.\!>]+|^)" . $key
in /plugins/serendipity_event_emoticate/serendipity_event_emoticate.php

These are only the beginnings of the lines. I simply matched the beginng of the element.
I've taken look at the beta and the latest version on s9y.org, it seems to concern all versions so far.
