Anyone have experience with Chinese players? I got some custom for an industry event 2 years ago and they were great little credit card sized devises - Last year I got them again and they were inferior and didn't work right as they would automatically sound a weird noise and start over during the second selection. Here is the info I got out of them: Vendor ID: 0x10d6 (Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd.) Version: 1.00 Serial Number: ㉕捤稰眷㕳愳㤷湲 Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec Manufacturer: ACTIONS Location ID: 0xfa130000 / 6 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 500 I know they were originally programed from Windows and the factory sent some new software but it was complicated and there were language problems. Any help out there? Thanks, Leonard ----------------------------------------------- You may want to take a look at these guys: http://www.s1mp3.org The problem with those el-cheapo players is that they really don't have the same guts, even if you bought a bunch of one brand at the same time. A lot of them are a SOC (system on a chip). They're basically a single chip with an 8086 type CPU, D to A and A to D converter, and eeprom. They're about as "intelligent" as a computer with a blank hard drive and are very generic. If you bought them from a certain supplier, they might give you a copy of the programming software they used to "format and restore" them. You may be required to understand and read Mandarin. Although the vendor text says "Actions Semiconductor Co., Ltd., (www.actions-semi.com) the Vendor ID number crosses to Wilson co., Ltd., (www.wilson.co.ltd.xfou.com . Link dead, probably out of business or bought out by Actions). If you have the Device ID as well as the Vendor ID, you can go to www.pcidatabase.com and try to see who made it. The software sent with it might be able to only able to install a previously downloaded binary (MP3 operating system). You might have to contact the seller and see if they have the binary and if they have a more "English" software. Most of the manufacturers don't make the binaries, only a blank device. If that doesn't work, double check the software you have and see if it can copy the binary from a working MP3 unit.
