THIS IS AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE, DO NOT REPLY. A new Flyspray task has been opened. Details are below. User who did this - Solomon Peachy (speachy) Attached to Project - Rockbox Summary - Port MacOS TTS code to "new" APIs Task Type - Feature Requests Category - Rockbox Utility (rbutil) Status - New Assigned To - Operating System - All players Severity - High Priority - Very High Reported Version - RButil 1.5.1 Due in Version - Next release Due Date - Undecided Details - The current MacOS TTS code uses the Carbon API, and that was formally deprecated in 10.8 (2012) and completely removed in 10.15 (2019), ie *seven* years ago. The new APIs have been around about as long, part of the AVFoundation framework: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfoundation/speech-synthesis MacOS27 will remove support for executing x86 binaries, and the Cocoa APIs were already removed by the time the Arm Macs were released. So dealing with this is of critical importance.
