Unless I missed something, only adjust_volume() and sound_set() should be available for plugins to change the volume. Only sound_set() can bypass the perceptual mode setting, which is only used by a few plugins:

- doom
- metronome
- midiplay
- mpegplayer
- oscilloscope
- vu_meter

Were there any others? I'm aware the standard playback control volume menu used by most plugins doesn't respect the perceptual mode setting, but that's not unique to plugins.
