Since there was no voice feedback I assumed that the player froze or something. It's all clear then. The part that the player does not return back to the WPS screen is what I was missing. In that case it makes perfect sense that next/previous only move through the entries and don't change what's being played back. So I think that the only problem is the lack of voicing in the cuesheet view. It wold be great if things could behave similarly to how they do in the playlist viewer.
