Re: Deleting an Inventory Location

While there is no official BPCS program to mass eliminate unwanted
item-location combinations for bogus locations, you can semi-automate some
of the progress, if the manual is excessively tedious thanks to volume.

If all you want to do is wipe out inventory in bad locations, then it is
very simple to:
*	Plan a bogus physical inventory for warehouses of bad locations.
*	Manipulate the TAG file to zero out the quantity expected, for all
the bad locations.
*	Replace the locations with zero inventory, after INV900 in end-month
processing, before any other action which might affect inventory.  A few
backups between steps is also wise.

When tags are created, they are created with quantity BPCS thinks are in the
items, then in a real physical inventory, people write on the tags what
inventory they found, then this corrected quantity is keyed back into the
tags.  Thus by having a program to mass zero any quantities at bogus
locations, you bypass massive manual entry, if all you want to do is zero
out the bogus location inventory.

Auditors should be consulted to verify they have no objections to this being
done.

The challenges are if you want to move inventory quantities from bad
locations to good locations.

Physical inventory can be run during an end fiscal month, without actually
doing a physical count of what's in your factories & warehouses.  You may
wish to use a test environment to get all the steps checked out as working
adequately.

Before generating the tag file, first make sure it is empty from past
activities, because generating it for any given warehouse just adds records
to any there from earlier activities.
Generate the tag file, for the warehouses you are doing this in, but do not
print the tags.
List by item. When the item is in multiple locations, those are ones you
need to deal with manually, or develop more software to handle.  Also when
items are in warehouses other than those you selected for this exercise, you
may want to stop here & re-think for a future month.

A non-BPCS program can change all the tags to zero, when there are certain
conditions (don't do for items in valid locations).  Then you can dump the
tags, back into BPCS inventory, after the bad locations zeroed, and now that
inventory is gone.

The difficulty lies if you want to move that inventory to a valid location,
in one of the warehouses you selected for the bogus physical.

Another (non-BPCS) program, written for your company, could go thru the tags
on the bad locations, find a good location for that inventory, and add or
update tag for the good location, which has its current inventory, plus what
you are about to zero on the bad location.  That is not valid if there will
be more than one such tag written, due to the item existing in more than one
bad location.
