<vendor> Hi Bonnie .... Sometimes the practical approach is to use multiple tools together ... you know, simultaneously use the oven, stove top and microwave to cook Thanksgiving dinner. The Lickety-Split spreadsheet transport tool is definitely not a work-flow product. But, you can design a specific script for each department for only those fields in the item master which should be maintained by that department. So, Engineering has a spreadsheet for only those fields that they should manage and the Lickety-Split script that runs that particular engineering-pertinent spreadsheet is password controlled to only work for Mr./Ms. Engineer Jones. Ditto for Cost Accounting, etc. You can even script Lickety-Split to perform an automatic edit check of every existing record in a master file. That's an A+ internal control application. Now, if you want to observe/verify completion of the work on a new item for all contributing departments, you could employ Stitch-in-Time software. http://www.unbeatenpath.com/software/sit/Stitch-in-Time.pdf A report from Stitch could be designed to report changes for fields that fall within the corners each department's authority for a specific item(s). Stitch reports could also be designed to report if a field change is somehow squeezed into the master file by a user who is not defined within Stitch to have authority to change that field. It's an after-the-fact control but auditors vote for that as much better than never finding out that a production planner accidently changed a cost field. That's a more economical approach than re-writing the item master file maintenance program to address only a sub-set of panel(s) for each involved department. Stitch sees every change, including DBUs and Queries, etc. God bless, Milt (+USA) 262-681-3151 [email protected] www.unbeatenpath.com < /vendor > From: Bonnie Bryant Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2019 12:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BPCS-L] BPCS-L Digest, Vol 17, Issue 43 Thanks everyone I've used the spreadsheet loading tools in the past. They are great for mass loading. We're looking more for a 'one-off' interactive tool to be used if/when a new item is added that will segregate the data owners and allow us to manage progress. Considered IDF and still may try that route. Hoping to find a 'ready-made' interactive tool. Really appreciate all the feedback b From: Milt Habeck [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2019 10:37 AM To: 'BPCS ERP System' Subject: Front End for load of Item Master data / Excel-based solution < vendor > Lickety-Split software transports Excel spreadsheet data into BPCS/ERP LX screens: http://www.unbeatenpath.com/software/dataentry/Lickety-Split.pdf The data load process is performed by interactively executing the green screen program that would otherwise be employed to manually keypunch that same data. Therefore, the same security enforced by the BPCS program is automatically observed by Lickety-Split. Edit checking in the BPCS program is also performed. If an edit check error is found on any record in the Excel spreadsheet, Lickety-Split captures the error message displayed on the green screen and writes it into the spreadsheet on that row. It then skips the problem row and continues to subsequent rows of the spreadsheet. After the upload is done, you can search the Excel spreadsheet for error messages, fix the problems, and then re-transport those fixed rows back up into BPCS/ERP LX. You can apply it to upload an entire database or you can use it to maintain a database or do things like upload cycle counts or standard cost updates. It even allows header/detail type uploads. It's lightning fast. People who see the demo say "it's slick." This is the tool Jason Schemmel referred to in his note earlier this morning.
