The reason we "messed it up" is merely because we still have
that CODE/400 C++ GUI and logic, which is also used by WebFacing
for its conversions. As we replace more and more CODE function
in the RSE, there is more and more we could port to Linux technically...
but it does take resource to do this and like everything we need your
help to prioritize it. So far, each time we do a poll for interest, we get
very small numbers in response. If you want a Linux client for WDSC,
please let us know! PS, the underlying WSSD product is available on
Linux. I'll take it Paul's vote is for it :-). Actually, FRED is the best
place
to log the requirement and vote for it.

PS: The RSE (minus iSeries support) is now part of the WebSphere
Studio Workbench for business partners who want to include it in their
own products, and as such it now runs on all the eclipse platforms,
including Linux.

Jon,

The new UI layer that was written runs without a single problem on Linux !
(just take a look at Eclipse).

It is again IBM (while investing tons of dollars in Linux ?) that messed it
up with RSE and the iSeries tools... they don't run on Linux.

Kind regards,
Paul

 >> Now I imagine if Bill Gates had any interest in writing a front-end for
IBM's WebSphere using core win32 API's.... HA!

Actually I believe that IBM have done just this. It is one of the reasons
why all of the additional features of WDSc etc. are not yet available on
Linux etc. If they used swing, it would run on Linux no problem, but it
doesn't - they wrote a new layer of JNI routines to provide the UI.

Imagine how slow it might be if they were using swing!
