Sore spot for lots of S/21 accounts back in the days of Geac and Harry Debes...!
Lots of posts in the archives about this one... http://archive.midrange.com/system21 Search for "Do you use your source code?"
(Sort by reverse time because this was way back in June of 2000. Fire up the way back machine Mr. Peabody...! ;) )

Basically, it came down to how your contract was worded...
Some got source, some did not...
I pitched a royal you-know-what when they tried to pull that one on us...!
I raised all kinds of a ruckus in this forum...
In the end we kept our source and I was treated to a free round of golf and a golf shirt.
During that round of golf, I was asked to kindly cease and desist talking about source code in this forum...

Well, Harry Debes is long gone. You have new masters at the helm now...
The notion of not letting source code go out the door to paying clients has not gone away.
It's all about revenue generation via customization services for Infor...
They don't really care if you've had the source code all along or if in fact JBA/GEAC were originally paid to create the bespoke code for you.
What they want to do is protect and cultivate the revenue stream for all the new enhancements they can get you to pay for...

You see, there are tons of 3rd party folks that would love to do the work for you at a fraction of the cost that Infor would like to charge you...
I don't know what their current rate for professional services is. I imagine it's between $140 and $190/hr these days...
So, imagine all of the talented ex-JBA folks out there who would be willing to under-cut that rate to say $80-$100/hr and do a fine job for you.

It's all about the bottom line. If you don't have the source code you have no choice but to pay the piper whatever he wants to charge you for their services.

Keep fighting...! Or surrender and pay...!

Good luck...!
