David is correct and is he way we do our backups. This does allow us to schedule the copy to tape at any time. We also have a change data area to set the save to tape flag in Mapics (Info). Not sure if needed for disk backup but was suggested by Mapics support.

The MAPICS backup also manages the transaction entry files.  We have resolved this problem by doing a MAPICS unattended backup to disk and adding pre- and post-backup programs to backup the other libraries and objects that we want to save to tape.  In the post-backup command, we backup AMSLIB to tape which is the library where disk backups are stored.

Running Mapics XA

We are currently backing up Mapics data using the Mapics procedures in
AXZU11 - Schedule Unattended Backup

Question is, does this do anything other than backup Mapics data to tape?  We want to start backing up all of our data onto one tape using Backup assistant rather than having to work around application backups.
If we stop doing the Mapics backup and include the Mapics libraries in the regular backup, we can do it all in one step.  The fear is that Mapics is doing something else.  Fear founded or not?
