MRP and MLI

All Is it possible that in 30 years I've missed this one: I would like MRP to plan customer orders. Is it a requirement that the item be flagged as MLI? I don't want to have to firm up MLI plan. I just want customer orders to generate MRP requirements. What should the settings be?
