I think this is getting closer.

Here are the formulas from the book: (COM - Available to Promise)

Demand: The total customer backlog and manufacturing allocations due each
day. It can also include generated demand from MRP/MPSP, if requested.

Expected receipts/Supply: Total expected receipts each day including open,
firm planned, and planned orders.

Period ending inventory (PEI): Beginning balance plus supply minus demand
for each day.  

Required starting inventory (RSI): Demand minus supply plus the future unmet
demand (FUD). This is the amount of inventory needed to meet a specific
days demand plus any shortage in coverage against future demand. The
calculation for RSI for a day is demand minus supply plus FUD. The RSI a
day is the FUD of previous day.

Future unmet demand (FUD): The amount of demand that is not covered by
supply in future days. For a specific day, FUD is the RSI of the next day 

Available to promise (ATP): Projected ending inventory (PEI) minus the
future unmet demand (FUD) for each day.

When I make this a simple formula I get.

Demand = Pick Requirements + IA + AL + Firm PLN, PLN
Supply = Open MO, Open PO, Firm MO, PO Req, FIRM PO, planned MO + Planned PO
PEI = First Date = On Hand + Supply - Demand
PEI = Next Days = Previous PEI + Supply - Demand
RSI = Demand - Supply + FUD  or  RSI = previous days FUD
FUD = next day's RSI
ATP = PEI - FUD


As you can see from the description, RSI = today - 1 + FUD = today + 1 +RSI

**THUS RSI = FUD = RSI....


Here is my problem.  ATP is returning results that are unusable.  For
example, an item shows negative ATP for the entire MRP horizon because I
have demand 2 years from now for which I have not released a PO.  If the
demand is beyond the CMLT time fence, why would ATP not say...available.

For example:  Suppose an item has 0 on hand, 0 demand, 0 supply, 0 atp and 0
unmet future demand.  And a lead time of 60 days.    I now get a customer
order for 100 units due 75 days from today, well beyond CMLT.  Why does ATP
show -100 available and not OK if it is beyond CMLT?

Onhand  - demand (customer, Allocations, or peg to demand) - Unmet future
demand 

+ scheduled receipt (either MO PO, or planned order).  Unmet demand is
aggregated up until the next scheduled receipt.
