Have you looked at implementation statuses.  In R7.8 they only control engineering, Mfg, BOM, and Routing.  I thought this was going to be expanded to Sales as Well (at some point in the future).  If it hasn't happened yet, you could use one of the three user Boolean fields and use CSM user exits to check for those.

We  have parts that have inventory but don't want any more (accidental) inventory booking activity. Is there a good way to do this?
