Why not create the streamfile all the time and then just drop it when not needed?

I have a program that saves the json to the ifs or not depending on the value of a data area :

if debug_mode
yajl_stdin_load_tree(*on : errorMessage : streamFile) else yajl_stdin_load_tree(*on : errorMessage)

How can I save the json when not in debug mode and an error is detected during the processing of the different objects?
