Here's how I do it for my website in Apache:

<VirtualHost ip_address:80>
  ServerName bvstools.com
  ServerAlias bvstools.com
  ServerAlias www.bvstools.com
  Redirect permanent / https://www.bvstools.com/
</VirtualHost>
