I agree with Frank: solder joints and their heat requirements are killers.

If you're in a location with Nextdoor, the community communications app,
just post a quick "DIY electronics help needed" post, and you'll find all
sorts of helpful hobbyists eager to help put a voltage meter across the
different points in the battery pack to locate any failure points, if
that's where it's hiding.
