main bulk of ARK1->ARK2 sweeping-up done

Folks, we switched over to the "ARK2" engine at the
beginning of the week... I have been scrambling to fix all
the, um, "infelicities" ever since...

Anyway, it's all done, all checked in.  I'll make snapshots
for FTP sometime this weekend.  Matt and I are both
completely switched to ARK2, so please don't use the ARK1
stuff/branch any more without {reason,letting-me-know}.

I think there are still a couple of "dark corners", but
otherwise it's looking pretty good.  (But I would say that,
no?)
