0410 snapshot "try-ark"

Will, we should finish debugging (and I use "we" loosely, as I paste in what
you tell me to paste in) that XML problem, right?

I have gotten try-ark to run.  The problems that may need "general"
attention include:

- zlib wants "makedepend" and that may not be found/visible

- it would be Really Swell to get "auto-fetch" working

- I'm starting to use patch-2.1 everywhere instead of 2.5.4, as the former
  actually Does The Right Thing with CVS patches

- try-ark builds my FreeBSD stuff in ark-builds/PKG--VER/ia32-freebsd/
  and I believe that builds should be done in an OS-version-specific subdir.
  I'll know more about this one when I get the full version installed.
