Folks, one of our number not known to most of you, Steve
Smallwood, 29, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning,
following a bizarre and unexplained "illness" (on the face
of it: a twisted ankle on Monday ended in death on Sunday).
He leaves behind a wife, Joan, a one-year old son, Aidan,
and a child on the way. It is very very bad news indeed.

Steve worked as a system administrator (contractor) at
Motorola, on the same floor as I do. He was good at his job
and genuinely well-liked (as we all know, a real achievement
for a sysadmin :-).

Steve was a lurker on this list, but we discussed Arusha
stuff quite routinely at the office. More importantly,
Steve was for me the *precise* kind of guy I felt (and feel)
the Arusha Project had to work for. If he couldn't
understand it, if it was too "weird" for him, if he couldn't
see the merits, then it was back to the drawing board, as
far as I was concerned. It is a profound disappointment
that our conversation was cut shockingly short.
