OK. I've checked in what I have for the moment for people to try and 
comment on. I'll rip out the hack tonight hopefully. Though I'm still not 
sure what to replace it with.

Oops ;-)  Perhaps the 'indexed' stuff should be replaced with the 
appropriate '!' code then?
