Jonathan, I haven't even *slightly* absorbed your (cool-looking) ARK TNG thing, but will toss in a quick thought before I rush off to pretend to have a day job... The question is: how do we think about *hosts*? Other tools (e.g. cfengine and LCFG) have hosts as the primary "things", and other "things" (packages, websites, etc.) get glommed on the side or don't feature at all. The present ARK (ARK 2, for those who are counting :-) says "hosts are things, and all things are equal", but hosts are a little more equal than others. We agree that this asymmetry is uncool. You (ARK TNG) are trying to smooth things out so that hosts really are the same as other things. The additional option that occurred to me was: we *stop* trying to make hosts be "things" and have them be entirely special (in some as-yet-undefined way). What's slightly intriguing about this last option is that it's the mirror-image of the "traditional" (cfengine, LCFG) view. Will
