FYI, `-ansi` is an alias for `-std=c89` which is almost certainly not what you
actually want.

This is effectively <https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?110286> and I'm going
to treat this feature request as a duplicate of that report.

I have *seen* add-on autoconf macros to enable warning options from the
compiler, but I am not having any luck finding them this morning.  The test
programs generated by Autoconf often do things that provoke compiler warnings,
which is why we don't offer such a macro ourselves yet.
