I created a Gnulib testdir (of all of Gnulib) with automake-1.16.92,
and built that on various platforms (from Alpine Linux to MSVC) [1].
Everything OK; all tests passed.

Obviously this tests only a small part of the Automake functionality,
namely the part of "just building, no development". But at least this
part works fine on all platforms.
