any experiences on static linking or LSB building of afbackup?

Hi all

At sourcepole we're currently looking for the best way to
provide a binary package of afbackup to our customers such that
we don't have to compile one for every RPM based linux distro
somebody might run out there (we've already got debs, and the
rest probably don't mind compiling themselves).

I'd be glad to hear of any experiences you might have with
linking afbackup statically (has anybody tried ulibc or
dietlibc? Are there any runtime problems?).

Further, should anybody have tried to build afbackup binaries
that conform to LSB, I'm very interested in how you (tried to)
tackle this config/header mess I experience here (eg regex.h).
