OK I got it to build. I had to pass --nocheck to mock and I
had to modify the spec file as highlighted below:

%{__perl} Makefile.PL INSTALLDIRS=vendor NO_PACKLIST=1
*cp Makefile Makefile.real*
make
%install
make *-f Makefile.real* pure_install DESTDIR=%{buildroot}
%{_fixperms} %{buildroot}

Now to install this and see if I can build the other half.
