Correct.

I'd very much like to know if that fixes your problem.

No.  Github gives me terrible trouble at the best of times and I'm
reluctant to push anything until it's had more testing anyway.

Is there a reason you don't want to work from a tarball?  A .zip file
from Github is more or less the same thing with different compression.

Maybe there's something else going on.  Do you know for sure that the
segfault is caused by rsync-bpc, and not for example by BackupPC-XS?

Interesting, and thank you!  I hadn't spotted that, I'll look into it.
