Hi all,

A bug in releases up to 2.4.23 and up to releases 2.5.8 leads the
merging of two archives to wrongly melt/mix/drop some hard linked
inodes (while most of them stay unaffected)

This only occurs if the first archive of reference (-A option while
merging) is the result of a previous merging operation (for example
you merge three archives together, you first merge the two ones, then
the result with the third)

It does not appear if such merging result is used as auxiliary archive
of reference (-@ option) only if it used with -A option.

The bug does not express if the first archive is a full, differential,
incremental or decremental backup that is not the result of a merging
operation.

Last this only affects hard linked inodes

The resulting archive is well formated thus testing the archive will
not show any warning, while restoring the archive will lead some hard
linked inode be substituted by an another exiting hard linked one
found in the same archive. The original inode not being part of the
resulting archive, this bug may lead some data not being saved in the
merged archive.

The bug has been fixed in the release candidates 2.4.24RC1 and
2.5.9RC1 which are available at

 ftp://ftp.dm3c.org/dar.linux.free.fr/Interim_releases/

waiting for releases 2.4.24 and 2.5.9 that should be issued soon

Regards,
Denis Corbin
