I think it would be a waste of space in archive, and of energy in
development, to store in any cases both UID/GID and their naming
counterparts, for the rare cases where one will ever use it.
Moreover, if dar restores the /etc/password file, what would become of
the user to UID mapping and of the group to GID mapping ? Would dar have
to check at each file restoration that this is not the /etc/password
file ? Would it have to know other systems as well and detect files that
could lead the uid/gid mapping to change ?
Last, if one wants to change the UID or GID associated to a given user
and name, it is wise to do it before of after restoration not at the
same time. This is easy to do : either just edit the /etc/password
/etc/group files and/or call 'find / -uid <old-uid> -exec chown
<new-uid>{} \;'
