Possible to only retrieve some files from a remote backup?

I am trying to use DAR to back up my whole system to a remote host (or S3).

and I don't want to download the whole backup every time since it's big( >
1T).  So is there a way for us to retrieve only those needed files ( or
slices containing them) from the remote host instead of everything?

Note: I've tried dar-manager but it seems to need access to the whole
backup. However, in my case, I can only download slices first from remote
first to access them.
