Re: dar works fine on MacOS X 10.3 Panther

I hope I'm able to help you a bit even by making dar more popular. At 
the moment there only ugly and non-powerfull free backup tools for mac 
(as far as I know) and so dar would be an real improvement.

First of all some information about dar and my system:

$ dar --version

  dar version 2.1.5, Copyright (C) 2002-2052 Denis Corbin

  Using libdar 2.5 built with compilation time options:
    Extended Attributes support: NO
    Large files support (> 2GB): YES
    ext2fs NODUMP flag support : NO
    Special allocation scheme  : YES
    Integer size used          : unlimited

  Nov 19 2004 with GNUC version 3.3 20030304 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 
1495)
  dar is part of the Disk ARchive suite (Release 2.1.5)
  dar comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details
  type `dar -W'.  This is free software, and you are welcome
  to redistribute it under certain conditions; type `dar -L | more'
  for details.

As you can see I used gcc 3.3 inlcuded by xcode. I've also installed 
some native labriries like xslt, xml, qt3 but I'don't think that they 
are neccessary for the compilation of dar but I'm sure you are better 
informed about.
And my complete system version is: MacOS X 10.3.6


And here the further information you've asked for:
First the Backup of my homedir (/Users/ignatz), backuped as user ignatz

After the successfull test I created a smaller backup/dar-archiev to 
compare the files after restoring them (as user):

	$ /usr/local/bin/dar -m 256 -y -s 4500M -D -R 
/Users/ignatz/Documents/Schule -c /Sicherungen/backup-Schule-temp
	Reading config file: /Users/ignatz/.darrc
	
	
	 --------------------------------------------
	 29 inode(s) saved
	 with 0 hard link(s) recorded
	 0 inode(s) not saved (no file change)
	 0 inode(s) failed to save (filesystem error)
	 0 files(s) ignored (excluded by filters)

And restored them (as root (is it really neccessary to restore them as 
root for correct ownerships?):
	$ /usr/local/bin/dar -r -x backup-Schule-temp -R 
/Users/ignatz/Documents/Schule

	./.DS_Store is about to be overwritten, OK ? [return = OK | esc = cancel]
	Continuing...

As far as I can see they seem to be correct
