things are fixed in CVS in the following way.

for the original unordered mask construction, the

	not simple_mask(<argument>)

construction is used when -P <argument> is given on command line. While 
in the ordered mask construction, the following mask is built:

	not ( simple_mask(<argument>) or simple_mask(<argument>/*) )

This seems to work properly so far.
