Hi Andrea,

Researching the D state, which is labelled as Uninterruptible Sleep, is usually associated with I/O or network filesystem failures.

It can also be associated with buggy device drivers so I would have to ask if you have updated your kernel around the time that this slowdown occurred?

If this is a possibility perhaps you could try a previous kernel version and see if that helps.
