I note that dar has several features for creating a modified copy of an archive, e.g. using the --merge option to filter an archive, or dar_xform to resize slices of an existing archive. I'm wondering if using these features is compatible with an incremental backup strategy? E.g. if I have a series of 4 backups made incrementally, and use dar_xform or dar --merge to create a modified copy of one or more of backups 1 - 3, can I remove the original backup and use the modified copy in its place? Or would this break the history of changes required for dar and dar_manager to link a sequence of incremental backups together?
