How to determine which difftar file contains a particular backed up file?

For the first time in many years, I actually need to restore some lost
data. I can search the cached manifests to find the most recent full
backup containing them, but there are literally 1000s of difftars in
that backup, which is held on S3's Glacier Flexible Retrieval.

Is there any way short of restoring (on S3) the entire backup to
vanilla S3 to get the few files I need? I think I understand what I
would have to do if I could identify the right difftar file(s),
pull just them back to vanilla S3 and download them.

But which difftar files do I want? Surely (he says hopefully)
there's an index somewhere?

Thanks,

ht
