One other point to consider. You may want to cache the tar listing some how with tar -tvzf Some of our backups are over 13GB and traversing the tar file itself can take some time. Also, is it possible to add some new features to hdup? at empoweringmedia.com we've begun using hdup and I've noticed some quirks that need handling.
