this is stupid gnu tar at work :-( From my reading of the tar=20
mailing list, this behavoir (incremental + files_from) of tar
will only get worse :-( Not better. I'm curious how other tar
based backup solution deal with this...

if that's true that would be my mistake...=20

These kind of problems only make the case for rdup stronger. I will
try to code the core hdup2 features to rdup next week, so that I=20
can provide a migration path from hdup2 to rdup.
