gzip vs. bzip2 - beware of performance difference

Before I started testing performance I'd tested the resulting file size
and bzip2 came out better.  But when performance testing came up...

In testing bzip2 is considerably slower than gzip.  By near an order of a
magnitude for me.. (!)

This isn't an hdup problem.  Some googling backs up these results:

A recent thread brought up afio, partially due to a performance concern by
the original poster.  They referenced "[..].tar.bz2" as their file 
extension...perhaps they'd have better luck with hdup w/ "compression =
gzip" instead of "compression = bzip". 

Perhaps something to add in the FAQ and/or man page for hdup.conf.

As a side note, lzop, another compression option looks interesting and may
warrant consideration for support in hdup.  An informal analysis (comparing
