Maybe the man page is unclear, but existing daemontools service
definition directories can be copied/untarred verbatim, no
changes whatsoever, into /etc/perp.

All you have to do is cp in the pair of simple, bog standard
rc.main/rc.log template files, as is.  No symlinks, no hassles.
Activate the service with a chmod +t and you are flying.

The main thing is, with perp an administrator can easily preserve
an investment in existing runscripts, yet still get the improved
usability features of the perp framework.
