Possibly a filterette that did the \n -> \r\n band-aid.  I'm also thinking 
that some of the timing based anti-spam tricks might be easier if the 
plugin could manage the I/O.

Also remember there's two models of TLS, there's STARTTLS in mid-session 
on port 25, or TLS at open time on port 465.
