Thanks for posting the while config file.

Your problem is that you never defined a default package manager!  You
need in your `control:'

DefaultPkgMgr = ( portage )

Otherwise, you have to specify the package manager for each `package:'
line.  This is also why you can't hit the case statement you are right
in thinking you need to, because it knows there is know default
package manager to read in.
