You should be able to just remove the variable entirely.  Have you
verified that you have something that actually utilizes that variable?  I
frankly don't remember what does, and I'm not even totally positive I'm
using that anymore.  Mmmm, cruft....

As to empty variables causing syntax errors, I'll apply that patch, but
like I said you should be able to just remove it.

Now, as to not having the .ok file in the first place, that's definitely a
bug.  I'll change it to copy the types file over to types.ok and ignore
the checksum if there's no file.

Seems like you're about the first person to try this, which is why you're
having so much trouble.
