So it compiles on fedora 7 ...

But everytime the -n timer times, and goes for a spindown, the 
flush/sync requests appear to move the block written count. This forces 
the drive to spin up again

the drive is an ide ( now named an /dev/SDA )  in a (old) dell laptop.
